I was commissioned to paint this family home. The project starts with at least one, good, photograph. It's important that I'm able to enlarge it to see the details.
After sketching the basic shape of the various elements, I paint the larger background.
For this piece acrylic was chosen. Acrylic is a nice medium to work with. It can look like it's older counterpart oil but dries faster and cleans up better. Or acrylic can be diluted so that it is more transparent performing much like watercolor.
With each layer more depth is added to the painting.
Everything is at hand, paints, brushes and several reference pictures of the home.
All that's left is to add a frame.
Old Glory is my most recent piece.
I dedicate this to all my fellow veterans, especially those who gave their all.
